Agency execs: Netflix will eventually run ads

Initial reaction as a longtime Netflix subscriber:

And I’m the ad business – it’s not like I’m ad-phobic. But after reading the article, this looks like a whole lot of wishful thinking and rank speculation. Google implied they were already in talks with Netflix regarding ads. Interpublic goes out on an even skinnier limb and says that people are suddenly going to abandon their adblockers, which is frankly ludicrous. He can’t “imagine” a world in which Netflix is ad-free.
Personally, I can see some changes in the face of new competition, and they do mention the Hulu model. But to assume that ad-free platforms, especially wildly successful ones, must inevitably support ads? I don’t see it yet, if at all.
