Does the news reflect what we die from?

Of course not.

But this is, in large part, an indication as to why the media is treated with such disdain, even by me. I have said more than once that the Fourth Estate has abrogated its responsibilities to the citizenry to such an extent that the malign charge of “fake news” is often as not a legitimate beef, and tehre is lots of work to do to recapture the esteem with which the press was once held. We can make all the excuses we want – social media, corporate ownership, TV news as propaganda outlets, the like – but until the media returns to old-fashioned values like truth in reporting and maintaining objectivity while disassociating from the click-bait revenue model, we’re going to continue to live in a world where opinion carries as much or more weight in the marketplace of ideas as fact.
